Camptown the product of a $14 million lodging investment in Catskill

The former Rip Van Winkle Motor Lodge in Catskill has been reborn as Camptown with extensive room upgrades, a restaurant and other improvements as part of a $14 million investment by the new owners.

And more changes are on the way.

The 22-acre property near state Thruway Exit 21 was purchased by Mountain Shore Properties, which saw great potential given the location of the old roadside motel.

“Camptown’s convenient proximity to nearby towns and New York City made it an exceptionally attractive opportunity,” Mountain Shore Properties founder/CEO Stephen Wendell wrote in an email. “The site is 15 minutes from Hudson, a few minutes from Catskill, close to I-87 and less than 30 minutes from popular ski resorts.”
